One sentence. America Counts is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit that lets Americans independently audit how votes are reported, using a free smartphone app to record poll tapes and compare them against official results.
Short (≈50 words). America Counts is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit building the infrastructure for independent, people-powered election auditing. Through its Actual Vote system, volunteers use a free app to video-record poll tapes — the printed totals posted at polling places — and the organization compares them to official results, publishing every finding in full.
Long (≈100 words). America Counts is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit, a project of Democracy Counts, Inc., which has been developing election-audit technology since 2016. Its Actual Vote system enables anyone with a smartphone to independently audit vote reporting: volunteers video-record poll tapes — the paper strips that tabulating machines print at the close of polls, showing local vote totals — and America Counts compares those totals against officially reported results using batch-comparison auditing, a peer-reviewed technique. All recordings are publicly archived, all findings are published in full, and the entire methodology is documented so that anyone can independently verify the work. The system is built to be non-partisan by design: it produces honest evidence regardless of who uses it.
