Actual Vote makes it possible to catch errors in vote reporting.
Wanna Vote makes it possible to catch errors in vote counting.
To see how Actual Vote works, let’s imagine it’s election day in a fictional Crow County.
After the polls close on election day, Crow County’s four polling places submit their voting results to the main Election Office to be tabulated.
Unfortunately, vote reporting in the US is vulnerable to errors. Here in Crow County, for example, an error has occurred.
Crow County reports these erroneous official results.
Actual Vote makes it possible to catch errors in vote reporting like this one.
It does this by analyzing poll tapes. A poll tape is a strip of paper posted at most polling places after closing time that contains the totals from the day’s votes (though some areas do it a bit differently).
Actual Vote users video-record these poll tapes with the app on their mobile device.
The information is sent to America Counts’s secure servers where it can be tabulated.
The data are analyzed for discrepancies. Here in Crow County, Actual Vote users have discovered a discrepancy in Candidate B’s totals! This is evidence of a possible error in vote reporting.
This evidence that Crow County Actual Vote users collected can now be brought to the courts by candidates, the media, and law enforcement to mount legal challenges to correct the official record.
This is how Actual Vote makes it possible to catch errors in the vote reporting.
Wanna Vote is our other election auditing app. It’s still under development. It’s designed to make it possible to catch errors in vote counting.
